the history of rape crisis support line
The Rape Crisis Support Line (0800 88 33 00) was launched in May 2013 by the National Collective of Rape Crisis and Related Groups of Aotearoa. The freephone line connected survivors with trained support workers in centres across the country.
At its launch, 22 services across six regions (Northland, Auckland, Central, Eastern, Wellington, Southern) were part of this collective, offering free and confidential advice, counselling, information, and advocacy.

In 2021, the National Collective closed. In March 2023, the Wairarapa Rape & Sexual Abuse Collective Incorporated found that the national freephone was still active but unmanaged. They now manage the National Rape & Sexual Abuse Crisis line.
This line is geo routed so people that call the 24 hour free calling number (0800 88 33 00) can select the area they are calling from (or the closest to it) from the menu of areas currently available.
Please note: Not all sexual violence services nationally are on this line, you may need to google to find a service in your area.
