Over 20 years of expertise
With more than 20 years of experience in the sexual violence sector, Michelle Ihaka is the driving force behind the Wairarapa Rape & Sexual Abuse Collective. As the frontline coordinator, Michelle works directly with clients, offering invaluable support and guidance. Her extensive knowledge and compassion make her a trusted resource within the Wairarapa community.
A Trusted Advocate and Community Leader
Michelle's contributions extend beyond her role at the Collective. She is recognised by other agencies for her collaborative approach and her ability to offer meaningful input into national sexual violence discussions. Michelle’s dedication ensures that both survivors and the wider community have access to support, advocacy, and education.

Michelle's expertise has earned her recognition not only in the Wairarapa but across the national sexual violence sector. She has received prestigious awards for her tireless work, including:
The 2023 Area Commander's Commendation Award at the Police Parade for 20 years of service.
A finalist in the 2023 Social Work Leadership Award.
Michelle is also a registered social worker with ANZASW (Aotearoa New Zealand Association of Social Workers)."
Strength in Both the Ring and the Community
Away from her work at Wairarapa Rape & Sexual Abuse Collective, Michelle also trains as a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter. In 2023, Michelle earned gold and silver medals at the World Kickboxing Championship in Bali, showcasing her determination and resilience. Michelle’s fierce dedication to her clients is mirrored in her tenacity as a fighter, both in the ring and as an advocate for those she supports.
